O'Rourke, Bullworth's fireman.
O'Rourke is a fireman in Bully. He was voiced by Tom Zurhellen.
Character Description[]
O'Rourke only appears in-game if The Gym is Burning is failed. Despite this, he has a full set of dialogue, and will converse with other townsfolk and Jimmy if placed in free-roam through hex editing. As he appears to be a complete character, it is unknown why he was removed from free-roam in the final build of the game.
A similar-looking fireman named Jake was posted on Tyler Wilson's website, in the early character models section.
Characteristics[]
O'Rourke is a deeply cynical person. He is especially bitter about his job, complaining about his low pay, budget cuts to the town's fire service, and the general lack of respect for firefighters. He is a heavy smoker, and makes many references to cigarettes in his dialogue. Additionally, Jake was depicted as having a cigarette in his mouth.
Role in game[]
As stated above, the only time O'Rourke appears in the game is if the mission The Gym is Burning is failed. He appears standing in the doorway of the burning gym with two of the policemen on either side.
Glitches and removal[]
There are some issues with the animation of O'Rourke's character model. He can't ride bikes or the moped properly, and he'll hover above the vehicle while riding in circles. He also can't bust people properly, and he glitches and flies randomly around them when he tries to bust them.
He is the only character in the game who is truly glitched. Even characters like Delilah and Jezebel and Courtney the Mermaid will function properly if added to free roam even if their graphics don't look right doing standard actions. This may be the reason O'Rourke was unused.
A purely speculative reason for this would be that it might have been possible at one point in the game's development for Jimmy to set things on fire either deliberately or inadvertently, which would prompt O'Rourke to show up and extinguish them. This idea may have been dropped either due to programming difficulty or concerns over the game's rating, leaving O'Rourke's programming unfinished.
